AMO Celebrates 40 Years of Advancing Optometry in Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia — The Association of Malaysian Optometrists (AMO) marked its 40th Anniversary with a Gala Dinner, bringing together optometrists, industry partners, and distinguished guests to celebrate four decades of progress in eye care.
A key highlight of the evening was the launch of the College of Optometrists, the academic arm of AMO. The initiative aims to strengthen professional development, elevate clinical standards, and support continuous learning among Malaysian optometrists.
The event was graced by Muhamad Faisal bin Ismail, Political Secretary to the Minister of Health, representing the Honourable Minister, reflecting the growing importance of optometry within Malaysia’s healthcare system.
During the event, AMO also recognised outstanding professionals through the Optometry Excellence Award, honouring contributions in advancing eye care and professional practice.
In addition, the inaugural AMO Lifetime Achievement Award 2024 was presented to three distinguished individuals: Datuk Murphy Chan Hian Kee, Prof Azrin Esmady Ariffin, and Mr Woon Pak Seong, in recognition of their long-standing contributions and leadership in the field.
AMO also expressed appreciation to its industry partners, including HOYA Malaysia, Johnson & Johnson MedTech Malaysia, Carl Zeiss Malaysia, and others, whose support continues to advance access to quality eye care nationwide.
As AMO celebrates this milestone, the association reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the profession and enhancing vision care for communities across Malaysia.
